Grx Studio founder Hank Tseng recently shared the company’s journey in an interview with Toyo Keizai Online, tracing how the company has built a global production network starting from challenging film industry.
Founded in 2008, Grx Studio has accumulated extensive experience across diverse genres. Early projects such as The Tag-Along (2015) and Wake Up (2015) demonstrated the company's ability to craft local stories that resonate with global audiences. This foundation led Greener Grass to become one of Netflix’s first production partners, producing internationally recognized series including The Victims' Game (2020) and Copycat Killer (2023).
Through collaborations with Netflix and other global platforms, Grx Studio has not only gained production resources but also valuable international co-production experience, allowing it to expand its global presence.
Expanding Across Asia: Ongoing International Projects
With a mission to develop locally rooted stories that connect across borders, Grx Studio is actively pursuing co-productions with partners across Asia, including:
▶ Taiwan-Korea Co-production: The Photo from 1977
Set in 1977, this cross-border romance tells the story of a young couple navigating love. Starring actress Li Mu and Korean actor Jin Young, the film is scheduled for release in late 2025.
▶ Japan-Taiwan Collaboration: Amber: Rebels of the Night
Developed in partnership with Japanese director Kentaro Hagiwara, the series is set in Tokyo’s Kabukicho district. It follows characters striving to find light amidst the shadows, drawing from the shared historical and social ties between Japan and Taiwan.
▶ Vietnam Collaboration: The Outlaw Doctor
The film tells the story of a Vietnamese doctor practicing in local, starring renowned Vietnamese actor Lien Binh Phat. Scheduled for release in 2025.
